Sometimes I long for Terabithia. At other times, I fear Westeros. Here are similar fantasy worlds that I’d love (or hate) to visit.
- A world where quantified happiness is a currency. You can trade your happiness for goods. You can gamble your happiness. You can steal others’ and give some away for free. Mostly, you just eat, sleep, go to work, play with your children, drink beer, and try to enjoy life.
- The world is ruled by a dog overlord named Darmio. Humanity must keep him entertained all the times. So, every person must to meet him in turn to entertain him and get special favors in return. When it’s your time, you forgetting everything else. You must absolutely go and meet him. You get smaller rewards for calling him a good boy, bringing him a chew toy, or throwing an item for him to catch and bring back. You get bigger rewards for entertaining him for longer by singing his favorite song or dancing with him. You can do whatever you want. Every month, Darmio chooses one person to die, one to earn a big prize money, and one to come live with him for a month and help him.
- A world where science has cured aging, so the population increase has been drastic. The FIFA world cup is now held every year. Instead of winners, losers progress to the later stages of the tournament. The country that loses the world cup needs to send 50% of their population to die. Once you sacrifice 50% of your population, you cannot compete in the world cup for the next 15 years.
- A world where a person’s soul lives 5 more minutes after they die. The soul can travel fast and can be partially seen and heard but not touched, until the time is up.
- Emotional tears have healing properties and are classified as class A drugs because of the side effects.
- A flat earth.
- The world is on top of an elephant who moves continuously on an even larger planet, causing fluctuating weather patterns.
- A world where the comet never wiped out the dinosaurs and they evolved to become intelligent.
- A random star comes down from the sky once a year and kidnaps adults all over the world. Everyone’s ultimate ambition is to be kidnapped.
- The great god Pressius watches over all these different fictional worlds and partially or fully controls the course of all these planets. They are his entertainment.
